100 Reasons to Smile

Lillian Greenwood, formerly of Manheim who now resides at the Gardens at Stevens, just celebrated her 100th birthday.
Following is a profile of her first century of life.
Date and place of birth: Sept. 16, 1916, Wrightsville, York County.
Parents: George and Mary Katherine Adamire; father worked in pretzel factory; mother a homemaker. She was one of six children (three brothers, two sisters).
Education: High school graduate.
Spouse: James Greenwood to whom she was married 25 years. He worked on brake linings at Raybestos Co.
Longtime residence: Manheim. Moved to the Gardens at Stevens four years ago.
Children: Audrey Lied and Lillian Michael; and three step-grandchildren.
Religious affiliation: Longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Manheim.
Activities: Lifelong member of the Manheim VFW; longtime volunteer at Nearly New and Meals on Wheels in Manheim.
Best day of your life: “I like to try and make each day a good day.”
Favorite entertainment/entertainers: Enjoys opera and classical music; watches Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy every night; loves Bing Crosby and Red Skelton.
Favorite pastimes: Reading, spending time with family, quilting, crocheting afghans (many of which she donates to the VFW), going on outings with fellow residents at the Gardens at Stevens.
To what do you attribute your longevity: “No real secret, I just try to be happy, and do things I like to do.”
Lillian says that she tried to be pretty good about eating healthy as she sticks to a gluten-free diet.
