Annual Adamstown festival to be held

Adamstown Community Days will be held over Memorial Day weekend, combining the usual festivities with a celebration of Adamstown’s 250th anniversary.

The dates for the 9th annual ACD are May 27, 28 and 29. Each day will be filled with food, games, carnival rides, live entertainment and fireworks that draw spectators from miles around.

The festival will be held at Adamstown’s Grove, located adjacent to the community swimming pool, just off Route 272. There is no charge for parking or entertainment.

Activities begin at 5 p.m. on Friday with a pulled pork dinner prepared by the ACD committee in the pavilion, a cruise night with the Cocalico Cruisers Car Club, a presentation of awards by Sen. Mike Brubaker and The Mahoney Brothers presenting "Jukebox Heroes Live."

Carnival rides open at 2 p.m. on Saturday. A wristband may be purchased for $15 that allows unlimited rides from 2 to 5 p .m. Sneakers the Clown will entertain at 3 and Josh Levingood will lead karaoke at 4:30. Immanuel Evangelical Congregational Church members will be serving meatball sandwiches, subs and spaghetti dinners throughout the day. The Poets will entertain the crowd at the main stage beginning at 7:30.

On Sunday, a community worship service will be held in the Grove, beginning at 9:30 a.m. All are invited to attend. Carnival rides will begin at 2 p.m. with the wristband special again available. Adamstown Rod & Gun Club will be serving a chicken barbecue dinner and their famous trout chowder beginning at 2. At 4, a Mardi Gras Party with The Crawdaddies will fill the afternoon with the happy sounds of Flamin’ Dick & the Hot Rods will take the stage at 7.

There is no charge for any of the entertainment. Spectators are asked to bring a chair and settle down under the tent to enjoy the music. For those who prefer reserved seats, they are available for $10 for each musical performance.

The festivities will conclude with a big bang -a 10,000 rocket fireworks show by D&M Pyrotechnics will begin at 10 Sunday. The show will have a special finale to celebrate the 250th anniversary. In case of rain, the fireworks show will be held Memorial Day at 9.
