Elizabethtown names Dean’s List

The following students received recognition on the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Elizabethtown College: Emily Gockley of Reinholds, Evan Hinkley of Denver, Leah Newman of Denver, Jennifer Newman of Denver, Brittany Russell of Stevens.

LVC Mentors

In addition to working to earn a college degree, Lebanon Valley College students are helping to encourage other, younger students to enroll in college as well through the Lebanon Valley Education Partnership (LVEP). Kailah E. Buckwalter of Denver, a graduate of Cocalico Senior High School pursuing a bachelor of science in digital communications and Karen E. Holzwarth of Denver, a graduate of Cocalico Senior High School pursuing a bachelor of science in digital communications, are both mentors.

Peer mentors to assist first-year students in their transition to college include: Kailah Buckwalter of Denver, who is pursuing a bachelor of science in digital communications. Buckwalter is a graduate of Cocalico High School.

Lock Haven Fall Dean’s List

Lock Haven University proudly announces local students who achieved Dean’s List recognition for the fall 2013 semester: Daniel Teleguz, Denver, senior, health sciences/pre-physician assistant; Danielle R. Weaver, Denver, sophomore, biology-chemistry and Ashley N. Strenko, Reinholds, freshman, health sciences/pre-physician assistant.

Dean’s List at Messiah College

The following students were named to the dean’s list for the 2013 fall semester at Messiah College: Denver resident Adam Marshall is a sophomore majoring in education certification grades pre K-4, Denver resident Elisabeth Martin is a senior majoring in human development and family science, Denver resident Nicholas Weaver is a sophomore majoring in mathematics, and Denver resident Jesse Yoder is a senior majoring in biblical and religious studies and Christian ministries.

Bob Jones recognizes students

The following local students attending Bob Jones University were named to the Dean’s List for grades achieved during the Fall 2013 semester: Dawn Mellinger of Denver, a junior journalism and mass communication major and Chelsey Wagaman of Reinholds, a senior middle school education major.

Students graduate

Ezra James Cassel of Denver, son of James and Patricia Cassel, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in management. Cassel is a 2006 graduate of Cocalico Senior High School.

Neal A. Fox of Reinholds graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in sport and exercise science from DeSales University May 18, 2013.

The following local students graduated from York College of Pennsylvania May 18: Michael Rampolla of Denver with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and Amber High of Denver with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing

The following students are members of the graduating class of 2013 at Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Va.: Courtney Hall, Reinholds, a Master’s Degree recipient in education and Joel Nofziger, Stevens, a Bachelor’s Degree recipient in peace building and development and history.

The following area residents graduated from Millersville University of Pennsylvania during the spring 2013 undergraduate commencement ceremony May 18: Shane Adams of Denver with a BA degree in Geography; Ryan Griffith of Denver with a degree in Biology; Whitney Zerbe of Stevens with a degree in Biology; Austen Lambert of Denver with a degree in Early Childhood Education; Mallory Leath of Denver with a degree in English; Alisha Fitzwater of Denver graduated cum laude with degree in Early Childhood Special Education and Andrew Hagy of Denver graduated with a degree in Biology.

Matthew Fittery of Reinholds was one of Wilkes University graduates at the summer commencement ceremony held on Sept. 8 in the Arnaud C. Marts Sports and Conference Center.

York College announces Dean’s List recipients

The following student were named to the Fall 2013 Dean’s List at York College of Pennsylvania: Todd Leach of Denver, a freshman Computer Science and Kham Suk Lor of Denver, a senior Criminal Justice.

Denisenko named to BJU Singers

Roman Denisenko of Denver was named to Bob Jones University’s University Singers, BJU’s largest choral organization which is also known as the freshman choir. Denisenko is a freshman majoring in graphic design.

Suk Lor graduates

Kham Suk Lor of Denver graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from York College of Pennsylvania on Dec. 18.

Corwin on Dean’s List

Ryan D. Corwin was named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Penn State University, where he is a senior majoring in electro-mechanical engineering.

Drexel participates in flood stories project

Wilkes University student Amanda Drexel of Denver, participated in a flood stories project as part of a first-year foundations course called “The Power of Story.” A first-year foundations course is a course required by all Wilkes freshmen. Students enrolled in the class collected oral histories of individuals who survived the September 2011 flooding in the Wyoming Valley. The stories focused on the community of West Pittston and chronicled the hardships endured and the recovery process experienced by individuals and institutions such as churches and the West Pittston Library. The project culminated in a presentation of excerpts from the oral histories at the library in November 2013.

Witmer recognized

Carissa Witmer, a freshman majoring in Exercise Science from Ephrata, PA, been named to the Fall 2013 Dean’s List at Hofstra University.

Kirstin Lutz of Denver was selected to serve as a resident assistant at Lebanon Valley College.

Local students enrolled at Alvernia

The following local students enrolled at Alvernia University, last fall semester: Courtney Roseberry, of Denver, is a forensic science major; Eva Wagg, of Reinholds, is an accounting major; Ryan Seymour, of Denver, is a criminal justice major; Dalton Zerkowski, of Denver, is an athletic training major and Brett Rissmiller, of Stevens, is a nursing major.

Scholarships granted

The following area residents have been granted the Clarence Schock Foundation Scholarship: Bradley Auker of Denver; Justine Weaver of Denver and Alexandra Genova of Reinholds.

Corwin makes Dean’s List

Ryan D. Corwin was named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Penn State University, where he is a junior majoring in electro-mechanical engineering.

Kittler graduates from basic training

Army Reserve Pfc. Karl E. Kittler has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Kittler is a 1996 graduate of Cocalico High School, Denver. He earned an associate degree in 1998 from York Technical Institute.

Abraham receives laptop

Freshmen that enrolled into the School of Engineering at Widener University last fall that were among the top of their high school class were recipients of laptops thanks to the school’s 2013 Engineering Laptop Scholarships. Justin Abraham of Reinholds was among this year’s recipients.

Gockley named to Dean’s List

Adam Gockley was named to the summer 2013 Dean’s List at University of the Sciences.

Oberly inducted to Pi Gamma Mu

Mark Oberly, son of Karen and Gary Oberly of Denver was recently inducted into the Pi Gamma Mu international honor society of the social sciences at Salisbury University. Pi Gamma Mu promotes excellence in, and recognizes outstanding contributions to the social sciences. Oberly is junior majoring in history and philosophy and is a member of the Outdoor Club and the Bellavance Honors Program.
