Cocalico area police log

The East Cocalico Police Department reported the following:

THEFT: Sharon Caldwell, 57, rented a trailer, tie down straps and a spare tire from Eagle Rental, 1327 N. Reading Road, East Cocalico Township, at 2:03 p.m. Feb. 4. The items were never returned. Theft of leased property charges were filed and a warrant was issued for Caldwell.

DUI: Police said a vehicle was stopped for erratic driving at 10:38 p.m. Feb. 26 in the 100 block of South Reamstown Road, East Cocalico Township. Matthew Charles Hepler, 34, was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Blood tests revealed Hepler was under the influence of a combination of alcohol, marijuana, and central nervous system stimulants. Drug paraphernalia was also found in his possession. DUI and drug paraphernalia charges were filed.

WARRANT SERVICE: Police were called at 2:46 p.m. March 14 to 2 Cardinal Drive for a reported disturbance. Contact was made with Shawn McGlory, 40. He was taken into custody on an outstanding bench warrant from Lebanon County. He was taken to Lancaster County Prison to await pick up.

DUI: Joshua A Weber, 28, of the 900 block of South State Street, Ephrata, was charged with four counts of misdemeanor DUI and a traffic signal violation after an incident that occurred in the 1400 block of North Reading Road in East Cocalico Township Jan. 29. Weber’s vehicle was stopped at approximately 8:29 p.m. after failing to come to a proper stop for a steady red signal. An officer determined that Weber was impaired and he failed several standard field sobriety tests. A blood test conducted at the hospital indicated that Weber’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.126 percent at the time of the test. The test also showed high levels of Nordiazepam, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone and Chlordiazepoxide in Weber’s blood.

The Ephrata Borough Police Department reported the following:

CRASH: Ephrata Police were called to an accident at the intersection of Route 897 and Windy Mansion Road in West Cocalico Township at approximately 3:55 p.m. March 17. A vehicle driven by Larry Weitzel, 68, Denver, proceeded without clearance through a stop sign at the intersection and struck a Jeep driven by Wendy Martin, 45, Reinholds. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with injuries. Police are still investigating the crash.
