Denver woman dies after one-car crash in West Cocalico Township

A 35-year-old Denver woman died July 13 after being critically injured in a one-vehicle crash in West Cocalico Township.

Police said a bicyclist found Darcy Hibshman’s vehicle overturned in a small stream in the 200 block of Sportsman Road, near the Cocalico Sportsmen’s Association, just before 7 p.m July 12.

Hibshman had been ejected and was unconscious in the water.

Reinholds Ambulance and Schoeneck fire personnel performed life-saving efforts on the woman, according to Ephrata police.

Hibshman was taken to Lancaster General Hospital in critical condition. She died at the hospital around 8 p.m. July 13, according to Ephrata Police Officer Scott Martin.

The crash was investigated by Ephrata police department’s accident reconstruction team.

Hibshman was rounding a turn in the road when she lost control, veered off the road and was ejected, Martin said.

The vehicle went through a fence and into a meadow where the it overturned into the stream, officials said. Police did not know how long she was in the water before the bicyclist found her.
