Event benefits rescued retrievers

By on June 1, 2011

Last year, Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue rescued 269 dogs. And, already at this point in 2011, well over 110 dogs have entered Golden Gateway — the organization’s facility.

The number of puppy mill breeder dogs surrendered to DVGRR has increased dramatically and can be expected to continue to rise. To meet its mission of helping the dogs that enter the program each year find homes, DVGRR will hold its 10th Annual Golden Gala June 12 from 3 to 7 p.m. at The Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square.

This year’s gala will honor the more than 3,200 golden retrievers helped by DVGRR since it was founded in 1993. It will feature silent and live auction items, raffle prizes, entertainment and delicious gourmet foods.

Veteran WMMR deejay Pierre Robert and his own golden retriever, Lucy, will co-host the festive event. Patrons can bid on week-long vacation get-a-ways at a spacious beach house in family-friendly Ocean City, N.J.; a condo in Park City, Utah; a winter holiday getaway in Sedona, Ariz.; a week in scenic and serene Myrtle Beach, N.C.; a relaxing July weekend at Atlantic City’s Borgata Casino and Spa; or a two-night romantic stay at the Inn at Fox Hill Farm in Pomfret, Conn.

Also up for big will be a package of four club box tickets to the Keith Urban concert in Philadelphia, original artwork, autographed sports memorabilia, fine dining opportunities, unique jewelry, exciting consumer goods or hard-to-find wines.

At the event, Project Home Life — a program that helps breeder and abused or neglected dogs to be accustomed to human contact and normal household sights and sounds through interaction — will also be highlighted.

Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue is a non-profit organization which provides new beginnings for displaced retrievers. Net proceeds raised at the Golden Gala will help provide veterinary care for the dogs and support the operations of Golden Gateway. The facility, located in Reinholds, is operated by a small staff and many volunteers.

Reservations for DVGRR Golden Gala 2011 are $115 per person which includes a partial tax-deductible donation. Persons who are unable to attend, but would like to support DVGRR, may send donations. All gifts are greatly appreciated. Information about and reservation forms are available at dvgrr.org or by calling 484-4799.
