The Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue will hold a special reunion for adopters of dogs from Puerto Rico on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Golden Gateway facility at 60 Vera Cruz Road, Reinholds.

Since DVGRR began assisting rescue organizations in Puerto Rico, more than 175 dogs have entered its program.

“We’re helping out our colleagues in San Juan because we have the capacity to do so,” said Robin Adams, DVGRR executive director and founder. “They are doing the best they can with limited resources, and there are many, many dogs on the island suffering from neglect and unthinkable cases of abuse.

“One such dog was Amapola, found tied in a remote field and left there to die. Another case involved a puppy stuffed into a bird cage and tossed into the street, and Tania was one of the most emaciated dogs we’ve ever seen. All of these dogs have now been adopted and are living healthy and happy lives.”

The Island Dogs Reunion welcomes all DVGRR alumni dogs from Puerto Rico and their canine siblings. All dogs must be on lead at all times. Food will be available for purchase, and the event will feature an assortment of games for dogs and their adopters.

A suggested donation of $10/family will be collected the day of the event and proceeds will go toward offsetting the cost of transportation for more dogs from Puerto Rico.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be postponed until Oct. 17. Postponement will be announced on the DVGRR Web site at www.dvgrr.org.
