Reamstown woman gets Solanco athletic recognition

Annmarie Sweigart Eckert of Reamstown, a 1979 graduate of Solanco High School, has been inducted into the Solanco High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

During her time at Solanco, Eckert participated in cross country and track and field as a distance runner. She earned her varsity letters all four years in both track and cross country and ended her high school career with a second-place medal in state competition.

Eckert was the first female cross country runner for Solanco.

She was also a member of an elite cross country and track team from the Philadelphia area known as the Padukies. Along with the team she traveled as far as California, North Carolina, Ohio, and through Pennsylvania to compete in AAU meets and managed to place in each.

During her Solanco years, she was a four-year member of the school band which included concert and marching band. She was also a glee club member.

In 2010, Eckert earned her master of science degree in metaphysics from the American School of Holistic Theology, Birmingham, Ala.

She has been married for 29 years to Donald Eckert, a supervisor at Superior Plastics, New Holland. The couple has five children and 10 grandchildren.

Eckert is currently employed at Susquehanna Printing, Ephrata, through Gage Personnel. Prior to that, she worked 13 years at the F&M Hat Co., Denver, in the manufacturing of wool felt hats.
