Reinholds man charged with having sex with miniature horse

After a witness reported seeing a suspicious man coming out of a barn in West Cocalico Township earlier this month, a Reinholds man has been charged with burglary and having sexual intercourse with an animal.

Ephrata police were dispatched to investigate an incident in the 500 block of Indiantown Road, West Cocalico Township, at 9:26 p.m. Aug. 16.

According to witnesses, a vehicle had been spotted near a barn, and the driver was seen going inside for a short time, then leaving. Witnesses noted the license plate number and provided it to police who traced it to Travis L. Wagner, 21, Reinholds.

Police interviewed Wagner who admitted he entered the barn for the purpose of engaging in sexual intercourse with a miniature horse housed there.

Wagner has been charged with one count of burglary, a felony of the second degree; and one count of sexual intercourse with animal, a misdemeanor of the second degree.

He was arraigned Aug. 29 before District Judge Nancy Hammil and was released on $5,000 unsecured bail. The burglary charge carries a maximum penalty of not more than 10 years in prison and the sexual intercourse with animal charge carries a maximum sentence of not more than two years in prison.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
