Stevens man charged with raping 12-year-old girl

Police have charged a Stevens man with raping a 12-year-old girl two years ago in West Cocalico Township.

Dakota Hawk Cunningham, 20, was arrested Aug. 10 on charges of rape of a child, unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors and indecent assault. All are felony offenses.

He was arraigned by District Judge Tony Russell and committed to Lancaster County Prison on $300,000 bail.

Ephrata police began an investigation in April and learned that the alleged incident took place at a home on Wollups Hill Road, where Cunningham resided, in October 2014.

Authorities said the girl lives in another county in Pennsylvania and was in the area visiting the home with another female friend when the alleged assault occurred.

Charges were filed by Detective Kenneth Lockhart Jr.

A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 19 before Magisterial District Judge Nancy G. Hamill.
