Café Chocolate: The Place for Chocolate Lovers
With everything chocolate— hot chocolate, frozen hot chocolate, chocolate dipped fruit, chocolate crepes, chocolate cake, chocolate truffles and even chili made with chocolate–Café Chocolate is a chocolate lover’s dream come-true.
It’s also a great place to get homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, main dishes and other wholesome, delicious food. From Second Friday get-togethers to book club groups, Café Chocolate has become a hub of activity, a friendly spot where you feel relaxed and comfortable.
Janice Dull has been the owner of Café Chocolate since June 2013. That’s when the Café Chocolate fan took over the popular café from previous owner and founder Selena Man. Dull had always loved visiting Café Chocolate— and the chocolate turbo drink with espresso— and when she heard the café was for sale, she jumped at the chance. What could be better for a chocolate-lover?
“We have made a few additions that people really seem to like,” says Janice, noting that some new sandwiches have been big hits.
Some have started out on the daily specials menu, later making it to the regular menu. A few include the Roasted Red Pepper Panini on multigrain bread with avocado and cilantro mayonnaise, and the Smoked Chicken Panini with avocado and jalapeno mayonnaise. The Roasted Turkey Croissant with Swiss and lingonberry mayonnaise is another great special, as well as the Roasted Red Pepper Carrot Ginger Bisque. With a name like Café Chocolate, you expect chocolate, of course. There is a Dark Chocolate Fondue, as well as Chocolate Ve lvet Pot de Créme, Chocolate Madeleine Cookies, Chocolate Crepes and Truffles made with 70% African cocoa beans. The latest chocolate treat is as Double Chocolate Salted Caramel layer cake, which is simply heavenly.
“Chocolate has many health benefits,” reports Janice, noting that chocolate is high in antioxidants, helps with cholesterol, reduces inflammation, lowers blood pressure, improves blood flow and helps with mood.
While chocolate is the big attraction, there are lots of other great flavors to enjoy. There are drinks like the Turbo with espresso, the Strawberry Lush that tastes like a chocolate dipped strawberry, latte, fruit coolers and mocha. Soups include chicken and rice, Mulligatawny and peanut chowder. There are salads and main dishes like Salmon Cake, Boboti Meatloaf, Chili con Chocolate, Hickory Smoked Chicken and Vegetable Curry.
Breakfast includes quiche, crepes, Breakfast Plate with eggs, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Panini. There is a children’s menu. And there are lots of choices for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and sugar-free diets.
Café Chocolate is located at 40 East Main Street, Lititz, and hours are Monday through Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s great for small groups, like book clubs or birthday parties. To find out more, call 626-0123.
