Celebrate the holidays at Mount Hope

By on November 24, 2015

This holiday season, Mount Hope Estate has taken its long-standing “Dickens of A Christmas” event to a new level. Guests will experience a different kind of interactive experience with this year’s performances.

The premise of the new event bears some explanation. Guests will enter Victorian Mount Hope Mansion in Manheim to a holiday party with time to meet and mingle with characters including legendary British and American actors and Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig, the hosts for the evening.

The beautifully decorated mansion is the perfect backdrop for the memorable stories to be presented later in the evening. Next to the fireplace where the Yule Log burns, visitors can purchase Swashbuckler Brewing Company beers or Mount Hope Wines by the glass to accompany some complimentary light party snacks. Following this festive gathering time, the entire audience will divide into two intimate theaters in the ballroom and the chapel to experience one classic and one adventurous Holiday tale during the remainder of their stay.

“A Christmas Carol,” by Charles Dickens — The story of a bitter old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge, his transformation into a gentler, kindlier man brought on by visitations by the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come. Presented with warmth, humor, tradition and a bit of audience support, the enduring tale of A Christmas Carol springs from storybook to the stage.

“The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle,” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle — This case of Sherlock Holmes offers a tale of goodwill with a darker flipside. As Watson pays a visit to Holmes after the Christmas holiday, he finds Holmes trying to return a hat and goose lost by someone on Christmas Day. Imbued with a touch of humor, and through the clues of hat and goose and precious stone, Holmes’ detective prowess leads them to solve the crime of the Blue Carbuncle and exercise a little traditional goodwill to men.
