‘Cinderella’ will be simply magical

Garden Spot Performing Arts (GSPA) presents the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical production of “Cinderella,” April 14-17 in the Stan Deen Auditorium at Garden Spot High School, 669 E. Main Street, New Holland.

This is GSPA’s 48th year of bringing live theatre to the Eastern Lancaster County community, and — over the course of those many decades — GSPA has earned a reputation for staging shows that far surpass the work of most high school theatres.

GSPA is partnering with the Garden Spot chapter of the TSA club to build a Human Powered Vehicle for when the pumpkin turns into the carriage. Dr. Thomas Beebe, GSPA alum and current professor of chemistry at University of Delaware, is leading this enormous endeavor.

Forty-four students have earned roles, which include nine principal roles. An additional 50 students are serving in different capacities (stage and lighting, props, costume, orchestra, make-up, etc.). As part of the preparation for this production, students, staff and volunteers took a field trip to Hershey Theater to see the Broadway National Tour of “Cinderella” in January.

Audiences young and old will experience the awe and wonderment of this iconic fairy-tale love story, featuring special effects like Cinderella’s instant dress transformations and a pumpkin turning into a carriage — all happening on stage, right in front of the live audience.

With musical arrangement by Rogers and Hammerstein, this stage production of “Cinderella” is the newly adapted, more modern version that was televised in the 1960s, starring Leslie Ann Warren and Stuart Damon, beloved by children and adults alike.

The box office hours are: March 28 through April 1 from 6-8 p.m.; April 4 through April 8 from 6-8 p.m.; April 9 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; April 11 through April 13 from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults; $10 for seniors and students.

Show times are: April 14 at 7:30 p.m.; April 15 at 7:30 p.m.; April 16 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.; and April 17 at 2:30 p.m.. The box office opens one hour before performances. Ticket sales are final; no refunds or exchanges.
