Ephrata Concert Band performances begin June 17

By on May 30, 2018

The Ephrata Concert Band committee is preparing for the start of its 2018 season by enlisting musicians to perform at its six concerts and donors to help keep the community musical tradition alive.

Each Sunday evening at 7:15 p.m. starting on Father’s Day, June 17, the band will play a different program of music, with a variety of musical types (such as marches, patriotic tunes, polkas, classical, and show tunes) included in each program.

A score or more of musicians will play each evening, but not all of them will play at every one of the 2018 concerts.

Conductor Martin Hinkley said musicians who wish to participate in the 2018 season should call him at 717-336-2671.

The concerts will take place at the band shell at the foot of Cocalico Street in Ephrata Borough’s Grater Park. The public is urged to bring folding chairs to the park. In the event of extreme weather, the concerts will be moved inside the Ephrata Recreation Center, several blocks away at 130 S. Academy Drive.

Admission to the concerts is free. The committee receives funding from the borough, and at the concerts donations to the committee will be accepted. The committee is also reminding people to help the tradition of admission-free concerts by sending in donations.

Mardel Lausch, committee treasurer, said people may send in checks payable to the Ephrata Concert Band to her home address: Mardel Lausch, 306 Lausch Road, Denver, PA 17517.

Donors in categories ranging from band booster (up to $24) to benefactor ($300 or more) will be recognized in programs distributed at the upcoming concerts.
