Ephrata Concert Band season starts on Father’s Day

By on June 12, 2019

Marches composed by John Philip Sousa and by Henry Fillmore and an arrangement of tunes from Disney films will be among the selections June 16 when the Ephrata Concert Band launches its 2019 season. The band will open its concert with the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the band shell at the foot of Cocalico Street in Ephrata Borough’s Grater Park at 7:15 p.m.

At intermission, refreshments will be for sale by Carol Stark and her 4OurKids educational charity. The public is urged to bring folding chairs. In the event of extreme weather, the concert will be moved inside the Ephrata Recreation Center at 130 S. Academy Drive.

The Ephrata Concert Band committee has been conducting a fund drive to keep alive the tradition of the admission-free concerts in beautiful Grater Park, and the Borough Mayor and Council has provided a $2,000 grant. Donations will also be accepted at the six consecutive Sunday-evening concerts.

Martin Hinkley will be the conductor. Any musician interested in being chosen to play at one of the band’s six summer concerts may call Hinkley at 717-336-2671.
