Get your Irish on at Eicher Arts

By on March 16, 2016

The Eicher Arts Center will kick off its 2016 season of admission-free Sunday afternoon concerts on March 20, with a St. Patrick’s Day-themed performance by Rizzetta’s Tones. The concert will start at 2 p.m. at the historic Eicher House, 409 Cocalico St., in Ephrata Borough’s Grater Park.

Rizzetta’s Tones is an American Celtic World band, with a repertoire that includes music from Ireland, Scotland and the United States. Band members sing and play instruments such as hammer dulcimers, flute, high and low whistles, and guitars.

The band’s name honors Sam Rizzetta, dulcimer builder, teacher and composer. Bill Stine of Rizzetta’s Tones explained that while hammer dulcimers are not specifically Irish traditional instruments, they fit in well with Irish music because of their ability to be both rhythmic and harmonic, going back and forth quickly.

In keeping with the St. Patrick’s Day theme, about 90 percent of the music at the March 20 event will be in the Irish tradition, and free refreshments such as Irish soda bread, cheese and crackers and oatmeal cookies will be provided.

Donations to the non-profit Eicher Arts Center, Inc. will be accepted. Learn more at the Eicher Arts Facebook page.
