By on January 20, 2016

Positions are available for the 36th season of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, starting Aug. 6 and continuing every Saturday, Sunday, and Labor Day Monday through Oct. 30. The entertainers at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire are the main attraction, and the Faire offers entertainment for all ages.

The Faire has two different acting groups, the Blackfryars (a part-time acting group) and the Bacchanalians (the professional acting company). These two acting troupes perform a season-long display of music, dance, kid’s activities, and action-packed shows, from the Ultimate Joust and Human Chess Match to Improvisational theater and stunt shows.

The Bacchanalian Company is a group of professional actors divided into four tracks of concentration. If cast, actors will be placed into either fight track, music track, improv track or lead track. Bacchanalian actors are provided with housing and are paid competitive wages.

Bacchanalian auditions will be held Sunday, Jan. 24, and Monday, Jan. 25, by appointment only. Call 665-7021 x120 for an appointment. Callbacks will be held immediately afterward. Come prepared with a 1-3 minute monologue, a 30-second song and bring a headshot and resume stapled together. The callback will include group improvisation, so wear loose fitting or comfortable clothing.

The Blackfryar Company is comprised of part-time experienced actors, enthusiastic novices with no prior theater experience, college students, senior citizens and everything in between. This cast is primarily responsible for bringing the village to life by creating interesting and fun 16th century characters that inhabit our extraordinary shire.

Blackfryars are trained volunteers who are compensated primarily with the experience of enhancing their skills by being trained and working with experienced musicians, actors, directors and stunt coordinators in a professional environment in this beautiful outdoor venue. During performance days, Blackfryars over the age of 18 receive stipends and all Blackfryars receive lunch.

Blackfryar auditions will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, and Saturday, Jan. 30, by appointment only. Call 665-7021 x120 for an appointment. Callbacks will be held immediately.

Those auditioning must be 15 years of age or older, and have the desire to work and learn in a professional theater environment. Provide a head shot, a resume and prepare a 1-2 minute monologue (either comedic or dramatic) and be prepared to sing a 30-second song. The audition will include group improvisation, so wear loose fitting or comfortable clothing.

Anyone under the age of 16 must have a parent or legal guardian attend auditions and, if cast, each rehearsal and performance day with the cast member.
