If you’re planning a hometown Fourth of July, there will be no shortage of fun activities available right here in Ephrata when next Tuesday rolls around.

It all starts with the 40th edition of the wildly-popular Firecracker Five-Mile Run at 8 a.m. on the Fourth (see feature story and details in this week’s sports section) in Tom Grater Park. Annually, upwards of 500 or more participants take to the streets of Ephrata and the Dick Winters Memorial Trail for a great start to Independence Day.

Then after an afternoon of visiting the pool and relaxing, it’s off to the Lincoln Heights Outdoor Complex and Ephrata Church of the Brethren were more fun is set to unfold.

Tuesday night, a Community Fun Night will once again be held at ECOB, adjacent to the Lincoln Heights area, where the evening will end with the traditional free fireworks display.

But starting at 5 p.m., come and enjoy an evening of fun for the whole family. Games start at 6. There will be live music from the Fabulous Hubcaps, juggling demonstrations by the DKers, pony rides from 6-8 p.m., games, inflatables, a barrel train ride, a variety of delicious food….all before the fireworks get underway.

Parking is by donation and door prizes are at 9 p.m. and donated by local businesses (register at the welcome table)

Ephrata Church of the Brethren is located at 201 Crescent Avenue, Ephrata.

Thanks to the generous donations of several key organizations and businesses, another great free fireworks show will then take to the air at approximately 9:30 p.m. (see related article on how to still contribute).

While the fireworks can be viewed from many locations in town, the area near the Community Fun Night and around the ballfields of the complex provide the best experience. In addition to the church, parking is also available at the Ephrata Rec and middle school.
