Daniel Witwer, business owner, youth coach, dies
Daniel Ben Witwer, 59, of Ephrata, died unexpectedly at his residence Monday, March 24, 2014.
Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Donald Richard and Mildred Garrett Witwer. Daniel was the husband of Joanne Anderson Witwer with who he celebrated 30 years of marriage.
He was an insurance broker for Myers & Bell Insurance Agency Inc. in Stevens and previously he worked as a third generation owner of Witwers’ Agency.
Daniel was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post # 429 in Ephrata. He was previously a member of the Ephrata Lions Club for 20 years and was a volunteer of the year. He was both an assistant and head coach for the Ephrata Midget Football Program. Daniel was previously a member of the Ephrata Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a proud member and part owner of Mt. Tom Hunting Club in Wellsboro. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and was a Philadelphia Flyers, Phillies and Eagles fan and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife: Joanne: his son: Chief Petty Officer Davis Benjamin Witwer, stationed in Pearl Harbor Hawaii; a daughter: Kate Elizabeth Witwer of Ephrata; and two sisters: Marica W. wife of Kevin Frey of Lancaster and Pamela, wife of Tom Trone, of Hanover.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Daniel’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 2 p.m. at The Groffs Family Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 528 West Orange Street, Lancaster The family will greet friends at The Groffs from 1 p.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials in Daniel’s name may be made to The American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603 or the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
