Former owner of Slote Music Centre dies
Edith S. Slote, 89, of Ephrata, formerly a resident at The Masonic Villages, Elizabethtown, passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Hospice and Community Care, Lancaster.
Born in Reinholds on July 18, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William and Lydia (Swartz) Sweigart. Edith was the wife of the late Ralph S. Slote, with whom she shared 70 years of marriage this past January 3, before his passing on July 15, 2012.
Edith attended Westminster Presbyterian Church with her daughter. She was Valedictorian of her Denver High School Class of 1941. During her working years, she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for Ephrata Shoe Company. Edith and Ralph owned Slote Music Centre in Ephrata for a number of years. Upon moving to Florida, she managed a golf shop for 20 years at Arrowhead Country Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and was an avid golfer and tennis player.
Edith is survived by a son: Jeffrey L., husband of Linda (Demmy) Slote of Ephrata; a daughter: Bonnie L. Hertzog of Ephrata; four grandchildren: J. Stanton, husband of Tammy Slote of New Holland, J. John, husband of Marcia Slote of Mass., Terry, husband of Christine Hertzog of Lititz, Brad Hertzog of Queens, N.Y.; seven great-grandchildren: Emily Anne Slote, Marissa Weiner, Caitlin Weiner, and Nathan, Joanna, Justin and Amanda Hertzog.
In addition to her husband and parents, Edith was preceded in death by two brothers: Earl and Horace Sweigart; and a sister: Sara Fassnacht.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata. Interment will be Friday, October 5, at 3 p.m. at the Swamp Cemetery, Reinholds.
