Janice Stradling, funeral home manager, dies Janice E. Stradling
Janice E. Stradling, 62, of Ephrata, entered into rest unexpectedly at Lancaster General Hospital Thursday, March 31, 2011. She was born in Ephrata, a daughter of Edwin G. Jr. and Dorothy (Zimmerman) Erb of Ephrata. She was the loving wife of G. Tomlinson Tom" Stradling III, childhood sweethearts who married in 1971. They recently celebrated their 40 year anniversary. Janice was the most devoted wife, mother, and Mimi. She adored her grandchildren: Ani and Ethan. She loved her family unconditionally and was a loyal friend to many. Janice was a graduate from Ephrata High School, Class of 1966, and a graduate of Hagerstown Medical Secretarial School. In the late 60s and 70s, she worked for doctors Ridgway, Grosh and Kowaloski in Akron. She was the business manager for the Stradling Funeral Homes Inc. for more than 35 years. Working in partnership with her husband and later with her sons, Jamey and Matt, and daughters-in-law, Jen and Nicolle. Janice was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, where she formerly served on the deacon board, music and worship commission and church choir. She was an avid swimmer and diver in her youth. She enjoyed music, reading, playing golf and traveling to West Virginia and Florida. Janice was a benevolent person, supporting many local charities. Surviving in addition to her parents and husband are her sons: James T., husband of Jennifer (Seffer) Stradling; and Matthew S., husband of Nicolle (Freeseman) Stradling, all of Ephrata; grandchildren: Anikka M. Stradling and Ethan J. Stradling; and two sisters: Debbie Hartl; and Judy, wife of Earl Redcay. Funeral services were held April 5 at Ephrata Church of the Brethren with Pastor Galen Hackman officiating. Interment was private at the convenience of the family in the Mt. Zion Evangelical Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Janice’s memory may be sent to Ephrata Church of the Brethren Deacon Fund, 201 Crescent Ave., Ephrata, PA 17522; or to Ephrata Recreation Center, 130 S.
