Merchants festival downtown Saturday
Pumpkins become projectiles once again with the return of the Ephrata Mini Punkin Chunkin Contest. The 2nd annual Ephrata Get Your Gourd On Event will take place in downtown Ephrata from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19.
This is a terrific event for the entire family to enjoy a day filled with an array of free activities. The Ephrata Merchants Association will sponsor a variety of contests, games, music, entertainment and the last Ephrata Whistle Stop Open Air Market of the season.
Two contests will be happening. The return of the Whoopie Pie Eating Contest for all ages at 10 a.m. on the plaza, and new this year, a Bubble Gum Contest at 11 a.m. at the Funest Toy Store. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Fall classics such as Make & Take Scarecrows, Pumpkin Bowling and Ring a Witches Hat will take place throughout the day, adjacent to the ENB Bank. Want to get those creative juices flowing? We have some left over screws, nuts and bolts to create your own Steampunk Pumpkins. Don’t know what a steampumkin is? Stop by the plaza to find out.
Throughout the day you can hear the voice and music of Matt Wegner and the sounds of the Music For Everyone Lancaster Community Chorus. The Chorus will be performing at the plaza from 11 a.m.-noon. Need some Magic, Mirth & Mayhem; the talents of Insanity Factor will be on hand to entertain you.
The grand finale of the day, The Mini Punkin Chunkin Contest, will happen from noon-1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the top three farthest chunked. Look for the chunking contraptions behind the Ephrata Chamber & Visitors center.
While at the event, plan on visiting several downtown stores for a great variety of fall wares and special discounts. For additional information, visit Ephrata Merchants on facebook or ephratamerchants.com.
