‘Peanut’ Keith, Akron coach, umpire dies
Robert "Peanut" H. Keith, 80, of Akron, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at his residence.
He was born in Millway, Warwick Township, to the late Ralph and Stella (Horning) Keith and was the husband of Helen N. (Zell) Keith, who would have celebrated 59 years of marriage April 5, 2012.
Robert was a member of the Akron Grace Evangelical Congregational (EC) Church. He worked at Graybill’s Dairy. Robert was involved with the Akron Fire Company and an umpire with the American Softball Association. A coach for Akron Midget and Midget Midget Baseball, he was also an umpire of various leagues and a quarterman. An avid Phillies and Flyers fan, who also enjoyed fishing and hunting, Robert was CEO of Peanut’s Famous Yard Sale Inc.
He is survived by three daughters: Joy L., wife of Curvin Good, of Denver; Jolene D., wife of Michael Kapczynski, of Akron; and June M., wife of Christopher Hall, of Denver; four sons: Jeffrey L., husband of Sue (Hess) Keith, of Akron; Jan R. Keith, of Acworth, Ga.; Joel R. Keith, of Akron; and Jerry D. Keith, of Ephrata; eight grandchildren: Matthew R., husband of Jessica (Martin) Keith; Bradley and Jennifer Keith; Jazlyn Keith; James and Alex Good; Nathan Becker; and Brenden Kapczynski; a great-granddaughter: Megan Keith; three brothers: Russel Keith, of Germania; Mervin, husband of Miriam (Haldeman) Keith, of Lititz; and Clifford, husband of Anetta (Stauffer) Keith, of Lititz; and a sister: June Landis, of Lititz.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Dot (Farlow) Keith; and a brother: Ray Keith.
A memorial service will be held April 7 at 1 p.m. at the Akron Grace EC Church, 101 N. Seventh St., Akron, with Rev. Leslie Cool officiating. Family will receive friends following the service.
