Refreshing Mountain adds lighted ziplines, holiday lights

Imagine ziplining through a winter wonderland of decorations and lights. That’s one of the new options for guests at Refreshing Mountain Retreat and Adventure Center this holiday season.

“We’re always looking for creative ways to introduce people to our property. Winter time is usually a slow time, so we decided to do something that lets people see the property in a different way,” said administrative director Justin Harnish.

The facility at 455 Camp Road, Stevens, will offer lighted ziplines, holiday lights and more on Fridays and Saturdays beginning Nov. 23, and Wednesday through Saturday, Dec. 26 through Dec. 29. Hours are 4 to 8:30 p.m.

Imagine ziplining through a winter wonderland of decorations and lights. That’s one of the new options for guests at Refreshing Mountain Retreat and Adventure Center this holiday season.

Refreshing Mountain sits on nearly 100-acres, but not all of it will be lighted. Two of the 15 ziplines will be lighted. The two lighted ziplines will feature 22 obstacles and lighted decks.
Harnish said guests can go a bit faster on these two ziplines so they won’t get too cold.

“It’s a way people can combine their sense of adventure with a love of Christmas lights,” he said. For those accompanying a party of zipliners who like to keep their feet on the ground, Refreshing Mountain offers a stroll through a Christmas light display. Selected areas of the property including the cabins and gazebos will be festively decorated. Harnish stressed that it’s a walk-through display, not a drive-through display. After the zipline adventure or a stroll through the lights, guests can warm up by a campfire, sip hot chocolate and sing Christmas carols.

“We wanted to create a peaceful, Christmas experience for the family,” Harnish said.

Each of the 13 cabins is also festively decorated inside and is ready for an overnight stay. Each cabin can accommodate up to eight people. Harnish said the rustic cabin suites have all the comfort of modern lodging, plus the peace and quiet of Refreshing Mountain, and the entire area around the cabins is also decorated. Harnish said this year’s offerings may be just the tip of the iceberg for Refreshing Mountain. If the year’s holiday activities are well-received, there may be additional activities next year. Some possible additions are a 15-minute light show and a drive-through light experience.

Participants interested in the lighted zipline experience have to be at least five years old. Participants must weigh less than 280 lbs. Harnish said both of these requirements are safety-related. Tours start every half-hour.

Refreshing Mountain will cancel activities if the temperature is mid-20s or below, or if there are high wind gusts or precipitation.

Advance reservations are required. For reservations or additional details, including pricing, visit refreshingmountain.com or call 717-297-1485.
