Aleksandra Garklavs, 102, cook at Thaddeus Stevens College, Latvian Church member

Aleksandra Garklavs, 102, of Lancaster, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at Maple Farm Nursing Home, Akron.

Born in Latvia, she was the daughter of the late Edvards and Emilija Gorbunovs. She was married to Arvids Garklavs, who died in 1997.

She was a member of the Latvian Lutheran Church and the Latvian Society of Lancaster. Aleksandra was a great cook, and loved to bake and garden. She retired in 1976 from the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology where she was a cook.

She is survived by her niece: Inara; and her husband: John Pelsis of Akron.

The family would like to thank Hedwig and the Rev. Robert Hunsicker for the caring, kindness, and friendship they gave her for many years. Also, the family would like to express many thanks to the staff at Maple Farm for their compassion and care the last few months

Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m., at Groff Family Funeral and Cremation Service, 528 W. Orange St., Lancaster, with a viewing Thursday at the Groffs from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Burial will be in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
