Allegra Leininger, 85, president of PA Farm Women

Allegra H. Leininger, 85, Reinholds, died Feb. 20, 2015.

Born in Elizabethtown, she was a daughter of the late Herman G. and Maria S. (Hollinger) Kreiner. Her husband of 66 years, Vernon J. Leininger, died Dec. 9, 2014.

A member and 40-year choir director at Mohler Church of the Brethren, Allegra was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and worked beside her husband on the family farm. She was president of both Pennsylvania Farm Women and Lancaster Farm Women Society No. 3, played piano and marimba for 75 years, and a member of the Ephrata Symphonic Arts Society. Needlepoint, counted cross-stitch, knitting, and doll making kept her busy; having 106 dolls displayed in her home. She was recognized by various organizations through the years for her craft and sewing talents. Her home-spun recipes and delicious cooking were also well known.

Surviving is her daughter: Rose Ann Leininger, Cleveland, Ohio; sons: Philip C. (Connie Showers) Leininger, Ephrata; and Michael K., married to Deborah Barry-Leininger, Denver; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister: Shirley H. Smith, Manheim.

A son: David V. Leininger; grandson: Christopher Michael Leininger; sister: Faye H. Kreiner; and brother: Dale H. Kreiner, predeceased her.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m., from Mohler Church of the Brethren, 21 E. Mohler Church Road, Ephrata, with the Revs. Carl L. Brubaker and Glen M. Faus officiating. Viewings will be Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. and and one hour prior to the service at the church.
