Arthur Zechman, butcher, vet

Arthur H. Zechman, 87, of Ephrata, formerly of West Reading and North Miami, Fla., passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at Ephrata Community Hospital after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Leah L. Zechman. Born in Reading, Arthur was the son of the late Arthur H. Zechman Sr. and Dorothy M. (Yost) Zechman.

He was a West Reading High School graduate and worked as a butcher. Arthur served during World War II in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Vincennes in the Pacific Theater. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son: Arthur H. Zechman III, of Vero Beach, Fla.; a daughter: Sherrie L., wife of Robert Bulles, of Blandon; two step-daughters: Lynn M., wife of Anthony Civitarese, of Wommelsdorf; and Janet L., wife of Joseph Tomko, of Denver; two grandchildren: Stacey A’mato and Kimberly Zechman; and five great- grandchildren: Megan, Nicholas, Danielle, Tony and Melissa.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
