Barbara J. Markley, 62, homemaker, enjoyed crafting, appreciated the little things in life

Barbara J. Markley, 62, of Ephrata, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016, at home.

She was born in Portsmouth, Va., to the late Simmie and Dorothy (Sebourn) Brown, and was the wife of Paul R. Markley, with whom she shared 23 years of marriage.

Barbara was a homemaker. She had a child-like spirit and appreciated the little things in life. She was a kind, caring, and loving person who always put others first. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She also loved animals, decorating for the holidays, crafts, flowers, board games, and Facebook.

In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by a son: Matthew A. Stipe, companion of Lori Ann Leitch; two daughters: Missy Ferrari and Tammy Helm; five grandchildren: Heather, Ryan, Tiffany, Lakin, and Zachary; two brothers: Virgil Brown, companion of Chris Bowen; Jerry, husband of Sandy Brown; and a sister: JoAnne, wife of Russ Pottle.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a daughter: Christina Lee Stipe; and a brother: Simmie Roland Brown.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, from 6:30 to 7 p.m., at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. Ninth St., Akron, followed by funeral services at 7 p.m., with Pastor Dori officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara’s memory may be made to Heartland Hospice, 3417-C Concord Road, York, PA 17402; or SPCA of Lancaster County, 848 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
