Barret C. Brooks I, 75, U.S. Army vet, C&B co-owner, dog trainer, animal lover, Eagles fan

Barret C. Brooks I, 75, of Ephrata, died unexpectedly on March 4, 2018, at Ephrata WellSpan Community Hospital.

Barret was born Aug. 11, 1942, to Clair B. Brooks and Pauline (Strickler) Brooks in Manheim.

Barret was preceded in death by his father: Clair.

Surviving are his mother: Pauline; and his loving wife of 57 years: Shelby R. Brooks; a daughter: Lori Brooks Gehman of Ephrata; a son: Barret C. Brooks II (Shelley) of Ephrata; grandchildren: Krystal Snader of Ephrata, and Justin Gehman of Reinholds; and great-grandchildren: Brailyn Brumbach and Kyla Croft of Ephrata, who were the love of his life. Also, surviving is a brother: Jeffrey Brooks (Kathie) of Lancaster.

Barret served in the United States Army. He was an avid animal lover and worked as a dog trainer for the last 40 years. Before being a dog trainer, he was part owner of C&B Trimming in Reamstown. He will be remembered most for his loving and kind spirit. He loved his family and enjoyed camping and making campfires with his great-granddaughters. His one big love was going to Florida, twice a year. He was a die-hard Philadelphia sports fan. Every Sunday you would find him wearing an Eagles shirt. He was the happiest man in the world when the Eagles won the Super Bowl.

Barret was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Ephrata Masonic Lodge 665. He was awarded a 50-year Masonic Service Emblem. Barret was also a member of the Ephrata VFW Post 3376, Fraternal Order of Elks, Post 1933, International Shriners Association, and a member of the Wounded Warriors Project.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
