Dale L. Snyder, 69, decorated war veteran, truck mechanic, ham radio enthusiast

Dale L. Snyder, 69, of Ephrata, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Ephrata Manor.

He was the husband of Linda L. (Miller) Snyder for 49 years.

Born in Ephrata, Dale was a son of the late William H. and Sarah F. (Duck) Snyder.

He worked as a truck mechanic at the former Diamond Spring Water Co. of Ephrata and most recently as a truck mechanic and welder at Lester R. Summers Trucking, Inc. of Ephrata.

Dale was a Vietnam War Veteran and served in the U.S. Army with the 71st Transportation Battalion of the 28th Infantry Division Artillery. He earned the rank of Specialist 5 and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.

Dale was a member of AARP, ARRL Amateur Radio &tstr; call N3KXC, Reamstown Athletic Association, AAA Central Penn, Outdoor World, Cloister Post 429 American Legion, and a Life Member of Cocalico Post 3376 VFW of Ephrata.

He was also a R.A.C.E.S. Volunteer in 2001 for the Lancaster Emergency Management Agency, and in 2005, completed a course for National Incident Management System and Introduction to the Incident Command System for FEMA.

Dale enjoyed helping others with homemade radio and computers.

In addition to his wife, Linda; Dale is survived by two sisters: Fern L., wife of Elam Martzall of Ephrata and Doris E. Hartman of Ephrata; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his brother: Carl Snyder.

Services were May 18 at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, Ephrata. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata.
