Deaths of Local Interest – July 6, 2016

Marie Evelyn Laughman, 73, of Cobblestone Lane, Lancaster, passed away June 28 at South Miami Hospital, Miami, Fla. Marie will be remembered for her bubbly style as she worked for 40 years in the hospitality industry, with the Lancaster Host Resort as their catering sales manager. After retirement, Marie was a welcomed employee for the Fulton Steamboat. Her son, Donald E. Laughman II, husband of Sherry, lives in Ephrata.

Audrey A. McComsey, 81, of Lancaster, died June 25 at Ephrata Manor. She was a physical education teacher for 31 years, teaching at Edward Hand Junior High School for 27 years, retiring in 1988. She was a Senior Tax Advisor for H&R Block in Reading. She was a two-time All American softball player and the first woman to be selected into the PA Softball Hall of Fame in Sunbury in 1988.

Robert Parker Shears, 95, passed away June 28 at Luther Acres in Lititz. During World War II, he volunteered for the Marine Corps and fought in the Pacific Theater. After his service, he continued his career at Prudential. He loved his family, and always felt blessed to have had two wonderful marriages. His daughter, Linda (Dennis) Krick, lives in Ephrata.

Reba V. Smith, 85, of Paradise, passed away at Conestoga View on July 1. In the past she attended the Paradise Bible Fellowship Church. Her daughter, Kathy Urban, lives in Ephrata.

Edward “EJ” Joseph Summers Jr., 29, of Lancaster, passed away June 27 at Lancaster General Hospital. EJ was a 2005 graduate of Pequea Valley High School. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition to sports he was an admirer of the Ford Mustang. His brother, Charles, husband of Eloisa Summers; and a sister, Jennifer Summers-Mentor, all reside in Ephrata.
