Deaths of Local Interest – April 13, 2016

Billy “Joe” Dickey, aka “Pappy,” of Sammamish, Wash., formerly of Manheim and Ephrata, entered the gates of Heaven April 3, surrounded by loved ones. He was a proud veteran, very independent, hardworking man who loved woodworking and spending time with his family. He was a great husband, brother, father, and grandfather.

Leroy Martin Horning, 79, of Annville, passed away peacefully April 10, at home. Leroy was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church and attended Lebanon Valley Bible Church. With an eighth grade education, he started building furniture with the family business, Horning’s Chair Shop, Hinkletown. He and his wife owned the Canterbury House restaurant, Palmyra. Leroy opened Horning’s Pedal Cars in Hershey where collectors from as far as Norway came to his annual open house in October. He had a creative mind and was always dreaming up his next project. His sister, Arlene Martin, wife of Lester, lives in Denver.
