Deaths of Local Interest – April 6, 2016

Donald R. Ahlgren, 63, of New Providence, entered into rest April 1. He worked in management at Reliable Industries. Don was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was a Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Don cherished the times that he had with his granddaughters. His sister, Phyllis Peters, lives in Ephrata.

Betty Mae McGee, 68, of Akron, died Monday, March 28 at Maple Farm Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. In her early years, Betty worked as an LPN at various area nursing homes but most recently she worked as an evening receptionist at Maple Farm. She also volunteered at Lancaster General Hospital. Her brother, Charles, married to Joyce (Weaver) Martin, resides in Ephrata.

Linda Lou Snyder, 59, of Laureldale, formerly of East Earl, went home to be with her Lord and Savior April 1 at ManorCare Laureldale. Born in Ephrata, Linda attended Garden Spot High School. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church. Linda faithfully read her Bible every day. She was fond of all animals, and especially adored the pet cats she had over the years. She made many latch hook rugs and pillows. Linda’s favorite color was pink.

Willie E. Thedford Jr., 42, of Lancaster, passed away at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, on April 2. Willie grew up in Lancaster City and was a member of the Boys Club of Lancaster. In 1990 Willie received boy of the year award from the Boys Club of Lancaster where he developed a passion for mentoring and educating young men. Willie was a social studies teacher at J.P. McCaskey East until his illness. He also taught for a year (1997), English in Japan. Willie was an avid body builder and was very proud of his work in maintaining his physique. His daughter, Brittany Vallery, wife of Derek; and son, Daryl Jarvis, all live in Ephrata.
