Deaths of Local Interest – Jan. 27, 2016

Ruby H. Evans, 91, formerly of New Holland, passed away Jan. 16 at Fairmount Home, Ephrata. Ruby was a graduate of New Holland High School, Class of 1942. She also earned a registered nurse diploma from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1947. She worked as a medical/surgical nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh for 20 years.

Ray E. Garner Sr., 82, of Lancaster, passed away Jan. 21. Ray worked for Hamilton Watch as a production planner for more than 40 years until his retirement. He proudly served in the US Air Force and was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be remembered for his devotion and love of his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His son, Joseph W. Garner, and fiancée Michelle Runyans, live in Akron. His sister, Miriam Wolf, lives in Ephrata.

Clara Doreen Heese, 77, of New Holland, died Jan. 21 at Ephrata Manor. Born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, Canada, Clara worked as a psychiatric nurse at the University of Saskatchewan Hospital. She was a member of the Germantown Mennonite Church in Philadelphia and was currently attending New Holland Mennonite Church. She enjoyed gardening and served as coordinator for the Philadelphia Northwest Meals on Wheels for 10 years.

Jean F. Mummau, 90, passed away Jan. 21 at Moravian Manor Nursing Center, Lititz. She was a remarkable seamstress and cook and loved to entertain. Jean and her husband loved to travel and visited many states as well as touring Europe and the Middle East. She especially enjoyed hiking and camping trips to the Grand Canyon. Jean was a loving mother and a special advocate for her son with developmental disabilities. Her brother, Carl Bollinger, husband of Joyce, lives in Akron. Her brother-in-law, Wilmer Martin, resides in Denver.
