Deaths of Local Interest – July 25, 2018

Jere A. Brown, of Lancaster, died unexpectedly on July 17 at his residence. Jere retired as CEO from Dimension Data and a board member at Zones, Inc. Jere was a 1970 graduate of Conestoga Valley High School and was one of the initial inductees into the Conestoga Valley Sports Hall of Fame. Jere also played in the World Football League for the Charlotte Hornets and the New York Stars. He was an avid bike rider, golfer, runner ­ — athlete. He is survived by a brother, Jim Brown (David Boland), Lancaster.

Jean Mooney Long, 95, formerly of Lancaster, Columbia, and East Donegal Township, passed away peacefully at Ephrata Manor on July 10. Jean was the payroll clerk at the former U.S. Lock & Hardware in Columbia. Not one to sit around in retirement, she made sandwiches part time at the Darrenkamp’s Market in Mount Joy. Jean loved singing and participating in events with Sweet Adelines International. She loved to laugh, have fun, and was always ready to go on trips and jaunts at the drop of a hat.

Kay McConnell, 69, of Rheems, died July 19. Her interests included reading, bingo, and crossword puzzles. A sister, Mary Foote, lives in Reinholds.
