Deaths of Local Interest – July 9, 2014

Arlene M. Fry Bear, 87, of Lancaster, went to be with The Lord July 1 at her residence. Born in Ephrata, Arlene retired in 1987 from RCA, where she was employed for 38 years. For 35 years, she bowled on the Rocky Springs Bowling League. She enjoyed gardening, friends, family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dolores Theresa (Cozzone) Christmas, 68, of Lancaster passed away July 1 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and dog. Her smile would instantly light up a room, and many people were moved by her gentle, loving, generous nature. Her brother, Ronald Cozzone, lives in Terre Hill.

Elizabeth B. Good, 96, Lititz, passed away June 28, at United Zion Retirement Community. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Lititz, and in her earlier years taught Sunday School there. She worked at Wagaman Bros. Printers in Lititz for 25 years prior to her retirement. Her son, James R. Kurtz, lives in Akron.

Daniel W.P. Hess, 46, of Mount Joy, died unexpectedly in a farming accident July 2. Born in Ephrata, he was the ninth and youngest child of Joseph and Lois Hess, of Mount Joy. Surviving in addition to his wife, parents, and children are eight brothers and sisters.

Roy R. Horst, 87, passed away July 2 at Landis Homes Retirement Community. His career included working as a farmer in Lancaster and York Counties as well as a carpenter, contractor, and builder in Tampa, Florida. Roy was a gentleman and friend to all. He was a man who had few critics. No surviving family lives locally.

Stanley E. Kreider, 92, a resident at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community and formerly of 1325 Robert Fulton Highway, peacefully entered his eternal home July 4. Stanley farmed at Drumore Center until he and Mildred retired to live in Mechanic Grove. His interests included family, friends, playing softball and golf, singing, watching sports on TV, and being a dedicated helper and a generous giver. A daughter, Carol Kreider (wife of William Randle), lives in Denver.

Logan N. Martin was born on July 3 at home and died at Hershey Medical Center an hour and a half after birth. He is survived by his parents, Jay Paul and Lorraine Z. (Nolt) Martin of East Earl, a sister Michelle, at home; and paternal great-grandmother Ruth Martin, who resides in Terre Hill.

Homer H. Nolt, 68, New Holland, died July 2 in a truck accident.Homer has worked for the past 40 years as a self-employed long-distance truck driver. He was a member of Martindale Mennonite Church and a salesman at heart. His sister, Elma, married to Melvin Sensenig, lives in Denver. His brother, John J., married to Lena Nolt, resides in Ephrata.

Charles E. Taft, 80, of Leola, passed away June 30 at the United Zion Home. Charles had worked as a machinist for Dart Container until his retirement. As a hobby, Charles enjoyed operating RC model airplanes and working on cars. His son, Jeffrey Taft, husband of Jennie, lives in Ephrata.
