Deaths of Local Interest – Nov. 18, 2015

Phyllis F. Brown, 88, of Narvon, passed away Nov. 15 at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center in Narvon. Born in Terre Hill, Phyllis was a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt.

Rayetta J. Foreman, 89, of Leola, passed away Nov. 14 at Ephrata Community Hospital. She worked at the former Cooper’s Bakery and Dart Container in Leola. She was also a homemaker, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid reader, gardener, life-long member of Zion Lutheran, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Leola Fire Company. She is survived by a son, W. Michael Foreman of Akron.

Anna M. (Good) Hoover, 89, of East Earl, passed away Nov. 14 at Hospice and Community Care of Mount Joy. She was the loving wife of Earl W. Hoover, with whom she shared more than 67 years of marriage. Born in Fivepointville, Anna was a member of Goodville Mennonite Church. She was also a homemaker and daycare provider. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, puzzle books, gardening, and cooking for her family. Her daughter, Diane Hoover, lives in East Earl. Brother Earl B. Good, husband of Emma, resides in Terre Hill.

David Eugene Hurst, 73, of Lewisburg, died Nov. 8 at his home. His brother Leroy (Patsy) Hurst, lives in Stevens. Brother Leon (Nancy) Hurst; and sister sister Irene (Lloyd) Burkholder; reside in Ephrata

Barbara A. “Barb” Knier, 69, of Manheim passed away Nov. 9 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Barb worked in the cafeteria for the Manheim Central School District and enjoyed collecting Boyds Bears. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and she had a passion for helping children. Her son, Ronald E. Knier Jr., companion of Cheryl Campbell, lives in Akron.

Andrew Lukus, 93, of Ephrata, passed away Nov. 15. He is survived by his wife, Irene E. Lukus.

Robert M. Michener Jr., 82, of Spring City, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Nov. 10 at Southeastern Veterans Center in Spring City. He was an architect for 35 years, having owned his own business, RMM & Associates. He enjoyed model railroading, visiting auctions, and buying collectibles. Bob proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. His son, Dennis L. Michener, and wife Julie, live in Ephrata.

James P. “J.P.” Sperano, 49, of Manheim, died Nov. 1 due to injuries from a three-vehicle crash in Rapho Township. J.P. served in the U.S. Army from 1998 through 2000. He was currently employed as an auto mechanic at Hilltop Truck Shop in Manheim. J.P. was also a member of the pool league at the Caribbean Inn in Manheim. His mother, Nancy Broeffle, lives in Denver. A sister, Tammy Verbonitz, resides in Reinholds.
