Dec. 31, 2014 – Deaths of Local Interest

Marvin J. Albert, 68, of Mount Joy, passed away suddenly of natural causes Dec. 22. Following his high school graduation, Marvin entered the Navy in 1965 during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of CTT2 during his time in service. He had a long career with the U.S. Postal Service as an accountant, retiring in 2005 with over 30 years of service. Marvin enjoyed spending time making maple syrup, was an avid Lancaster Barnstormers fan, and belonged to the Penn Dutch Pacers. His daughter, Pam Pierce, lives in Denver.

Norman E. Getz, 87, died Dec. 19 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was an avid antique car and truck enthusiast and participated in local and national competitions and rallies. Norm served in the United States Army during WWII. His sons, Dale, married to Patricia (Smucker) Getz; and Phillip, married to Shelley (Mallory) Getz, live in Denver.

Dionisia (Diane) Mastrogiorgos, 75, passed away Dec. 23. She was born in Kos, Greece and immigrated with her brother Kosta (Gus) Mastrogiorgos to Lancaster in 1971. She was a seamstress for over 30 years, working at JCPenney, Anderson Little and Doneckers. She was self-employed and enjoyed opening her home to clients for fittings and alterations. She was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

Minerva B. Gehman Nissley, 93, of Landis Homes, peacefully left her earthly home surrounded by her family Dec. 22. Minerva had a true servant’s heart, always giving to others through her gift of hospitality. She enjoyed entertaining, baking, gardening, and caring for others in need. She was a founding member of First Deaf/Witmer Heights Mennonite Church.

Kenneth L. Stoltzfus, 73, of Arizona passed away at the Wayside Inn near Alamo Lake, Ariz. He was born in Gap. He was formerly a mason, working in Arizona, Alaska and Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. The love of his life was fishing, biking, hiking and spending time with his companion, Rosie, and their dog, Maggie. His sister, Fannie, wife of Clair Bowman, resides in Ephrata.
