Dennis Michael O’Brien, 64, career Navy vet, rusty iron restorer, loved his family, friends

By on September 14, 2016

After a two-year valiant battle with pancreatic cancer, Dennis Michael O’Brien, of Narvon, went peacefully to heaven at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016. He was in his 64th year of being a thoughtful steward here on Earth.

Twenty-five of these 64 years, he was in the U.S. Navy, and was very proud to serve his country. While in the Navy, as well as in retirement, Dennis was a purveyor of rusty iron. He used to say, “someone’s junk is another man’s treasure.” And treasures are how his restorations turned out.

He is survived by two children: Rebecca and Emily O’Brien; and a grandson: Duncan. Dennis is also survived by two children and three grandchildren through his 17-year relationship with Dr. Cindy Beyerlein: Greg and Heather Beyerlein with grandson, Dylan; and Michael and Eva Hoffmaster, with grandchildren, Carson and Chloe.

Along with his blended family, Dennis was surrounded with a large extended family, primarily located in Bucks County, as well as friends from all walks of life. Dennis never met a person he did not like and did not want to get to know a little better.

On Sept. 1 at 7 p.m., his death was peaceful, arms reaching outward to heaven, where his mother was diligently waiting to hold him in her arms once again. At last, no more struggling. No more compromises due to his battles with cancer.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. at Brubaker Park, on Long Lane, just off of Route 897 (Dry Tavern Road) in Fivepointville

Walk with me to the water, when it comes my time.

What we say will not matter; just keep your hand in mine.

I’ll cross the water by myself, I know that’s what I must do.

But the chilling sting won’t be felt, because I’ve walked with you. – Nellie Keller

So, go! Continue your journey, Mr. Tinkerer of rusty iron. We will see you on the other side.
