Doris A. Klaassen, 88, worked at Hummel’s Greenhouses, avid reader, active at Pine Grove Church

Doris A. Klaassen, 88, formerly of Bowmansville, died March 4, 2018, in Berks Heim.

Born in Leesport, Berks County, a daughter of the late Tilghmus and Pearl (Rickenbach) Hummel, she was a member of Pine Grove Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in Women in Missions.

A 1947 Wernersville High School graduate, she worked for G. Earl Martin Plastering & Drywall Contracting, Hemmerich Industries, and Hummel’s Greenhouses. Doris was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, canning, and cross stitch quilting.

Surviving is her husband of 63 years: Joseph Klaassen, Country Meadows, Wyomissing; daughters: Denise L. (G. Mark) Robertson, Oley; and Sue M. (Rick) Kuzniar, Denver; grandchildren: Joanna Lynn Robertson, Andrew Mark (Colleen) Robertson, and Christie L. Mast; a great-granddaughter: Isla E. Robertson; and brothers: Richard (Helen) Hummel, Wernersville; and Forrest (Cindy) Hummel, Robesonia.

A sister, Charlotte Reitenaur, predeceased her.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9, at noon from Pine Grove Church, 1194 Reading Road, Bowmansville, with Rev. Jonathan Yoder and Rev. David Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
