Dorothy Diem Levering, 87, worked at Pot-Nets, mother of six, was great cook, enjoyed cards

Dorothy Diem Levering (née Hoover), passed peacefully at United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz, on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the age of 87.

Surviving Dorothy are five children: Lamar L. Levering, husband of Sharon of Ephrata; Kathleen Hoffner, wife of Robert of Mountville; Gary Levering, husband of Susan, of Brownstown; Michael Levering, husband of Sandra of Lititz; and David Levering, husband of Pamela of Hummelstown. Also surviving are four step-children: Pamela Greenholt, Jeffrey Diem, Curtis Diem, and Steven Diem, all of Ephrata. In addition, Dorothy had 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and one sister: Janet Stoner, wife of Dale Stoner of Brownstown.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her both her parents; two husbands: Howard W. Levering and George H. Diem; and a son: Thomas Levering, husband of Helen of Lancaster.

Dorothy was born April 14, 1930, in Brownstown, to Samuel and Bertha Hoover (née Weaver). After moving to Rehoboth, Del., she began working for Pot-Nets as a pool attendant. After retiring from Pot-Nets, Dorothy moved to Lakeland, Fla., where she lived for 13 years before returning to the Ephrata area.

Dorothy enjoyed cooking, and she was good at it according to her sons. She loved playing cards, particularly Hand and Foot. When she lost at cards, her cooking wasn’t as good. She was a light-hearted, good-natured person. Dorothy was a member of Ebenezer Evangelical Church of Brownstown.

Friends will be received at Gravenor Home for Funerals 100 West Main St., Ephrata, on Thursday, May 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow, with Reverend Sally Maxwell officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Weaverland Cemetery, 210 Weaverland Valley Road, East Earl.
