Edna Mae Netzley, 84, Cinderella Knitting Mills worker, enjoyed making pies, baby items

Edna Mae (Messner) Netzley, 84, of Denver, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016, at home.

She was born Nov. 7, 1931, in Centre Township, Berks County. She was the daughter of the late John A. and Mary J. (Roth) Messner, and was the wife of the late Arthur “Sammy” Netzley, for 55 years. He passed away Nov. 20, 2007.

Edna was a member of Mellinger’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stevens, having been baptized Jan. 7, 1932. She graduated from Penn-Bernville High School in 1950. She worked for 40 years at the Cinderella Knitting Mills in Denver and also at Helen’s Restaurant ­ Green Dragon, Ephrata. She and her late husband enjoyed 20 years of cutting grass on the Fairview Cemetery. They were named Volunteers of the Year by the Denver Lions Club in 2002. She enjoyed walking, baking pies, and crocheting baby caps, booties, and afghans.

Edna is survived by a daughter: Susan Ann (Netzley), wife of Barry L. Specht, of Denver; a granddaughter: Erica Sue (Specht), wife of Jeffrey L. Barnett; and two great-grandsons: Tyler Matthew and Austin Joseph Barnett, all of Crestview, Fla.; four sisters: Joanna B. Dreibelbis of Womelsdorf; Florence A. Petery of Spring City; Grace M. Hartman of Newmanstown; Alice I., wife of Harold Spang, of Newmanstown; and a brother: John P. Messner of Shartlesville.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother: Monroe Messner; and three sisters: Lillian Blimline, Verna Zerbe, and Mary Levan.

A visitation with family will be held on Thursday, July 21, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m., at the Mellinger’s Lutheran Church, 80 Gockley Road, Stevens, with Pastor Timothy L. Craven officiating. Interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery Annex in Denver.
