Elva Zimmerman, 79, homemaker

Elva Ruth Zimmerman, 79, of New Holland, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at her residence.

She was born in Brecknock Township to Aaron and Hannah (Good) Wise. She was the wife of Ammon M. Zimmerman and they were married on Nov. 8, 1952.

Elva worked as a homemaker. She was a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conference).

In addition to her husband she is survived by four daughters: Edith W. Zimmerman, of New Holland; Almeda W., wife of Paul M. Nolt, of New Holland; Elsie W., wife of Neil Z. Martin, of Manheim; and Rosene W. Zimmerman, of New Holland; five sons: Allen W., husband of Vera B. Zimmerman, of Lititz; Melvin W., husband of Linda Zimmerman, of Ephrata; Ray W., husband of Mary E. Zimmerman, of Denver; Ammon W., husband of Rhoda Zimmerman, of Blue Ball; and Carl W., husband of Ruth B. Zimmerman, of New Holland; 32 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Verna, wife of Paul S. Hoover, of Lebanon; Hannah G. Martin, of Ephrata; Anna, wife of Eli H. Horst, of Leola; and Laura, wife of Lewis L. Horst, of Lebanon; two brothers: Luke G., husband of Anna Wise, of Myerstown; and Alvin G., husband of Anna Mae Wise, of East Earl; a sister-in-law: Ella Wise, of Womelsdorf; a brother-in-law: Norman Hoover, of Reinholds; a stepsister: Verna E., wife of John M. Martin, of Denver.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Raymond G. Wise, Jacob G. Wise and Aaron G. Wise; two sisters: Susan G. Martin and Erma G. Hoover; and a granddaughter.

Funeral services were held July 4 at Farm Crest Chapel with further services at Bowmansville Mennonite Church with Bishop Amos G. Martin and ministers Marlin Lauver, John M. Martin and Leon B. Zimmerman officiating. Interment followed in the adjoining church cemetery.
