Erma C. Straub, 94, sold antiques and depression glass at flea markets, avid swimmer

Erma Clara Straub, 94, formerly of Lansdale, Montgomery County, died peacefully April 7, 2016, in Ephrata Manor.

The third child of Howard and Daisy (Garis) Brand, Erma graduated from Lansdale High School, and worked in the elementary school cafeteria and the community swimming pool concession stand. Her husband of 56 years, Adolph L. Straub, died in 1998.

She talked fondly of courting days with Adolph, jitterbugging, and parking under the street light in front of her home. Living in Lansdale for many years, they moved to Cocoa Beach, Fla., in 1995, and in 2007, Erma moved to Reamstown, to be near her daughter, Barbara. She and her husband enjoyed collecting and selling antiques and depression glassware at flea markets. She swam more than 100 miles at the Lansdale YMCA and continued to swim a mile every day in Florida until the age of 85.

Erma moved to Ephrata Manor in 2010, where she enjoyed the company of other residents and participating in activities, including bingo and bocce ball. She will also be remembered for loving to sleep on the floor.

Surviving is her daughter: Barbara E., married to Donald H. Olsen, Reamstown; her sister: Shirley Fisher, Lansdale; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by a daughter: Sandra Dean; and brothers: Lamar and Paul Brand.

Inurnment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler.
