Harold E. Lausch, 88, Ephrata, Korea vet, worked at Miller-Hess, was ‘The Piano Man’

Harold E. Lausch, 88, of Ephrata, formerly of Denver, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at Ephrata Manor.

He was born in Ephrata to the late Edwin and Rebecca (Leininger) Lausch and was the husband of Bernice G. (Goshert) Lausch, who passed away in 2001.

He was a member of the Reinholds VFW Post #6759, F.O.O. Nest #54 in Denver, and the Schoeneck Fire Company. He enjoyed fishing and playing the piano, and was known as “The Piano Man” at Ephrata Manor. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Harold worked for the Miller-Hess Shoe Co. in Akron for 35 years. He also worked for Fleet Air in Ephrata for six years, and was a custodian for the Cocalico School District for seven years.

Harold is survived by three daughters: Carolyn J., wife of Frank Stauffer of Stevens; Joanne L., wife of Smith C. Burkey of Denver; and H. Fay, wife of Michael Freed of Denver; a son: Dennis E. Lausch and companion, Jeanne L. Jenne of Ephrata; four grandchildren: Chris, Marc, Melissa, and April; and one sister: June, wife of Edward Spotts, of Leola.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Ruth Mohler, Hilda Miller, and Betty Eberly; and a brother: Warren Lausch.

A viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 13, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Donecker Chapel at Ephrata Manor, 99 Bethany Road, Ephrata, where funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will take place in the Steinmetz Cemetery.
