James F. Youndt, 84, co-owned Youndt Bros. Home Dressed Meats, avid golfer, hunter

James F. “Jim” Youndt, 84, Denver, died Aug. 26, 2016, in Ephrata Community Hospital.

Born in Fivepointville, the 11th child of Allen B. and Frances L. (Lorah) Youndt, Jim was the faithful husband of Barbara (Leid) Youndt for 65 years.

A member of Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, he served on church council 21 years and was active in Sunday School and various committees. Beginning at age 14, Jim joined the family business, Youndt Brothers Home Dressed Meats, working for 58 years, becoming co-owner with his late brother, Robert, and seeing the business continued by his sons. He was also a member of Ephrata Lodge No. 665 F&AM. An avid hunter of both large and small game, he also enjoyed golf.

He was blessed with children: Rebecca (Randal) Houser, New Holland; Getha (Douglas) Loose, Ocala, Fla.; J. Lessley (Sandi Belchick) Youndt, Terre Hill; Allen (Carole Stahl) Youndt, Stevens; Andrew (Kim Hess) Youndt, Manheim; M. Phillip (Tina McCarty) Youndt, Ronks; and Scott (Jennifer Lesagonicz) Youndt, Denver; 16 loving grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren: sisters: Mae Henley, Edith Weinhold, Fern Oberholtzer, and Grace Hirneisen; and a brother: the Rev. Mark Youndt.

Brothers: Luke, Robert, Lester, Roy, Clarence, Richard, and Bill predeceased him.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 1, at 11 a.m., from Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, 11 S. Muddy Creek Road, Denver, with a viewing from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Private burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
