Jay J. Burkins, 91, D & E grounds manager, VFW member, enjoyed bowling, fishing

Jay J. Burkins, 91, of Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy.
He was born in Lancaster to the late John and Florence (Reifsnyder) Burkins, and was the husband of the late Sarah E. (Mersinger) Burkins.
Jay worked for Denver and Ephrata Telephone Company as a grounds manager for 40 years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and was a member of the Ephrata VFW, and Subvets of Lancaster.
Jay is survived by a son: Guy Burkins of Ephrata; three grandchildren: Tina Zarfoss, Michelle Burkins, Nichole Burkins; four great-grandchildren: Tyler Zarfoss, Abigail Zarfoss, Brooke Burkins-Simione, and Matthew Rapp.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jay was preceded in death by a son: Jay Burkins Jr.; and two brothers: Melvin and Calvin Burkins.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family, with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.
