Jeffrey S. Fortna, 52, Ephrata grad, active in Lions Club, worked at Pennfield Feeds
Jeffrey S. Fortna, 52, of 952 Spoon Ave., Landisville, died Tuesday at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy, following an illness of five months.
He was the husband of Jennie Grunden Fortna. They celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on June 21. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Pat Strohl Fortna of Lancaster, and the late Ronald Fortna.
Jeff was the business mdanager and part owner of Little’s Distributorship in Columbia. He was previously employed at Pennfield Feeds Corp. for 23 years. He was a member of the Hempfield United Methodist church. Jeff was involved in various Church activities. He was a graduate of Ephrata High School Class of 1980 and a Graduate of Central Penn Business School Class of 1982. He was the president of the Columbia Lion’s Club and a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was an integral part in the Mardi Gras Parade, the Lion’s Club Christmas Basket Program, the Lion’s Club Blood Drive and many other Lion’s Club activities.
He was treasurer and membership Chairman of the State PA Sports Hall of Fame and was membership chairman for the Susquehanna Valley Chapter PA Sports Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Columbia/Middletown Elks Lodge #1074, Chickies Rock Lodge #307 Loyal Order of the Moose, the Susquehanna Fire Company, Red Rose Memorial Post #2435 VFW, York County Meat Dealers Association, Columbia Fraternal Association, Foresters Of America, Red Rose Lodge #16 Fraternal Order of Police and the Susquehanna Beneficial and Social Association of Marietta. He went out of his way to help others.
Surviving, besides his wife and mother, are two sons: Jared S. Fortna of Landisville, and John F. Fortna of Lancaster; daughter: Jessika, wife of Randy Ross II of Lancaster; sister: Susan R., wife of Gene Fasnacht of Lancaster; nephew: Tyler C. Fasnacht of Lancaster; and a brother-in-law: John E. “Ginger,” husband of Cheryl Grunden of Wrightsville.
Services were held at Hempfield United Methodist Church, Lancaster, on Aug. 16, with Rev. Dr. Keith Braucher and Rev. Bruce Lefever officiating. Interment followed in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens.
