Joanne Marie Will, EHS ‘52 grad, mother of five, was inspirational Christian school teacher

Joanne Marie Hornberger Will, formerly of Akron and Ephrata, went home to be with her Savior on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.

She joins her husband, Ray; parents, Ralph and Violet (Warner); her brothers, Jim and Clarence; and her grandson, Christopher.

She is survived by her children: Brian, Doug (Kathy), Bradley (Cathy), Barry (Karen), and Jean Amison (Geoff); as well as 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Joanne was born and raised in Ephrata, where she attended the Bergstrasse School and graduated from Ephrata High School in 1952.

She married Ray Will in September of 1952 at Hope Evangelical United Brethren in Ephrata. When the family settled in Tallahassee, Fla., in 1977, and earning her degree from Tallahassee Community College, Joanne went to work for North Florida Christian School as a teacher in the ACE Program, where she mentored and tutored hundreds of students over the years. After retiring from North Florida, she went to work for Maranatha Christian School as a teacher, finishing her teaching career of almost 30 years.

She spent her retirement, as well as countless summers while teaching, watching her grandchildren and attending church at Maranatha Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday school class for the ladies and worked in the nursery. Mrs. Will is fondly remembered by many students as having been integral to their success in school.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 4, at Lakeview Baptist Church, 222 W. Seventh Ave., Tallahassee, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, or Gracepointe Baptist Church.
