John Benjamin Eberly, 84, formerly of Brownstown, retired from Sico Oil, enjoyed singing

John Benjamin Eberly, 84, went home to meet the Lord Dec. 22, 2014, at Brethren Village from natural causes.

Mr. Eberly is survived by his wife of 12 years: Fran (Gehman) Eberly; four sons: Glenn, married to Linda, of Ronks; Don, married to Sheryl, of East Hempfield; Bruce, married to Carla, of East Earl and Rick, married to Karen, of Cincinnati, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Born Oct. 17, 1930, John was the oldest of seven born to Harvey and Bertha Eberly, of Lititz. John is survived by two brothers: David and Lloyd Eberly; and three sisters: Roberta Shirk, Rosanna Ball, and Sharon Martin.

John was a long-time resident of Brownstown and before retiring, was employed as a transport driver for Sico Oil Company, based in Mt. Joy. John was active in the church and with local choral groups. For much of his adult life, he was a dedicated member of Hess Mennonite Church in Lititz, where he will be buried along with his first wife and the mother of his four sons: Pearl Eberly, who passed in 2002.

John’s greatest desires in life centered on his faith, as a Sunday school teacher, chorister, non-profit volunteer and faithful witness in his daily life.

Services were held Dec. 27 at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, Lititz, with Pastor Chris Smeltz officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Hess Mennonite Church Cemetery.
